Today I witnessed a miracle in the making. A friend’s barn burned to the ground in September. Nov. 16, it was almost raised from the ashes by his Amish neighbors.

They approached him shortly after the fire and wanted to do a barn-raising for him. He had to have the concrete work and basement work done; they then spent about a week-and-a-half cutting lumber, numbering it, and getting it ready to go up.

At 7:30 a.m., about 45 Amish men showed up with two crews coming from Lowville and Canastota, as well as neighboring men, to “raise the barn.”

It was unbelievable to watch the barn going up and how fast they did it. When I left at 3:30 p.m., they only lacked some of the roof and the rest of the sides. Just amazing!
