cross-church1-150x150The First Presbyterian Church in Cazenovia will celebrate the fourth and final Sunday of the Advent Season Dec. 18 at its morning worship service at 10 a.m. The Candles representing the Wonder of the Season, the Wonder of the Promise, the Wonder of the Message and the Wonder of Hope will be lit on Advent wreath followed by a litany from the congregation and a choral response from the Senior Choir. The public is invited.

The service will feature Christmas in Brass with trumpeters Nathan Kaercher and Aaron Velardi playing the Fanfare and Variations on Noel Nouvelet by Raymond H. Haan as the prelude and Christmas Angels by Felix Mendelssohn as the postlude. They will also be accompanying the congregation on favorite carols as well the choral anthem Emmanuel by Noel Goemanne. Both Nathan and Aaron are music teachers in the Chittenango Central School District.

The message of the service “Unexpected Advent will be delivered by Rev. Oak. The service will have familiar Biblical passages foretelling the Christmas story read by members of the congregation. The lessons from the Bible will be then accompanied by favorite Christmas carols.

The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Advent is marked by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing, of hope. In a world that seldom slows, Advent is an opportunity to still our hearts and open our eyes to the wonder and majesty of the season.

If you are looking for an open and friendly place to celebrate Sunday morning worship, the Cazenovia Presbyterian Church welcomes you. Child Care and Sunday School are available during the service. For more information contact the church at 655-3191 or www.cazpres.org.
