Oneida-based state police arrested Douglas A. Davis, 56, of Route 5, Vernon, for DWI following an accident investigation Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 4:55 p.m. March 23, troopers were dispatched by Oneida County 911 to a one-car property damage accident on State Route 5 near Churton Road in the town of Vernon.

The accident investigation revealed that a 2010 Dodge Caliber was traveling eastbound on Route 5 rounding a left-hand curve when the vehicle drove off the south shoulder of the roadway and struck a ditch.

While interviewing the operator, Davis, troopers noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Sobriety tests indicated Davis was intoxicated, and he was taken into custody for DWI. Davis was processed at the SP Oneida barracks, where a breath test determined his blood-alcohol content to be .12 percent.

Davis was arraigned in Vernon Town Court on the charges of DWI and driving with a BAC of .08 percent or greater and was released by Town Justice William Croll to reappear April 19, 2017.
