From April 5 through April 7, more than 800 members of the Future Business Leaders of America gathered at Rochester’s Riverside Convention Center for their annual State Leadership Conference.

Canastota’s High School chapter of FBLA sent nine members to the conference. Chapter advisors, Elizabeth Garofalo and Robert Esposito accompanied the members. Students participated in general sessions, workshops, competitive events, and served as voting delegates throughout the three-day event.

While at the conference, Canastota senior, Lindsay Bazan, completed her term as the State Vice President of District 7 for New York State FBLA. Lindsay was the recipient of the Outstanding State Officer Award, a prestigious award given to state officers who have gone above and beyond their duties during their year.

Lindsay also finished in first place in the event, Organizational Leadership, advancing her to the national level of competition. Matthew McDermott prepared and entered the chapter’s Local Chapter Annual Report and received a first place finish for the 15-page report. The report will be entered into the national competition. At the conference, the Canastota Chapter was recognized as one of the top five outstanding chapters in the state

At the conference, the Canastota Chapter was recognized as one of the top five outstanding chapters in the state – receiving fourth place recognition for their efforts during the year. Other awards included a second place finish in the Creativity Challenge, a first place finish in the Goose Chase Challenge, as well as special recognition for completing the state’s program of work.

New York State FBLA is composed of nearly 8,000 members in 180 chapters. Canastota members are looking forward to representing New York State at the National Leadership Conference being held this June in Anaheim, Calif. Fundraising activities are being planned to raise funds for this trip. We hope you will support the Canastota Chapter at their upcoming chicken barbeque being held at the school May 16.
