Competition open to students in 11th and 12th grade, submission deadline April 25

Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) announced the 2017 Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. The Congressional Art Competition is open to students in 11th and 12thgrades in the 22nd Congressional District.

Beginning in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is held every spring to showcase talented art students across the nation. Each Member of Congress receives submissions from students throughout their district. Submissions will be judged by a panel in the district, and the winning piece will be prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

“It is an honor to host the 2017 Congressional Art Competition to recognize the many talented art students in the Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier. I encourage all students in 11th and 12th grades to submit their artwork, and I look forward to seeing the great pieces from students across the 22nd District,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.

Acceptable mediums include:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal
  • Collages (must be two dimensional)
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs
