Herkimer College announces the appointment of Gabrielle “Gabe” Coffey of Utica as head women’s basketball coach. Coffey will be responsible for recruiting, scouting, game/practice planning and player development for the women’s basketball team.

Coffey most recently was the head women’s basketball coach at Finger Lakes Community College from 2014-2016. She also has served as assistant coach for Finger Lakes and University of Rochester, head coach for Hudson Valley Community College, head girls JV basketball coach at the Academy of the Holy Names (Albany) and assistant varsity boys basketball coach for Christian Brothers Academy (Albany).

Coffey was named 2009-2010 Mountain Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year and 2010-11 National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. In addition, while at Hudson Valley, she received the 2011 Paul F. Bishop Coach of the Year Award for exhibiting the highest level of sportsmanship, leadership, professionalism and ethics, and demonstrating the highest level of commitment to her sport, the athletic department and the student-athletes.

Coffey holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Oneonta, a master’s in exercise and sports psychology from Ithaca College and a master’s and C.A.S in school counseling from SUNY Albany. She has worked as a high school guidance counselor, admissions counselor at Ithaca College and an academic coach and disabilities testing specialist at Finger Lakes Community College.
