Raiders’ Senior Climbs to Top of Record Books in Hammer Throw at Phoenix Invitational
 
Colgate men’s track and field senior Daniel Mosko (Los Gatos, Calif.) set a school record in the hammer throw Saturday afternoon at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University.

Just one week after throwing the second longest hammer throw in school history, Mosko broke the 48-year-old record held by Gary Bartell ’70 (53.38 meters) with a throw of 54.86 meters.

Mosko is one of two Raiders to pick up a first-place finish Saturday afternoon as the Raiders’ throwers had one of their best meets of the season. Nicholas Hamilton (West Caldwell, N.J.) earned Colgate’s other first-place finish with his top mark in the javelin with a throw of 44.33 meters, his best throw this season.

Patrick Needham (Vermilion, Ohio) set a pair of personal records as he recorded three top-10 finishes. Needham set personal records with a shot put of 12.26 meters and hammer throw of 38.79 meters, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. Needham also finished ninth in the discus throw with 35.17 meters.

Jack MacPhail (Rye) also had one of the best meets of his freshman season, setting a pair of personal records with a discus of 37.32 meters and hammer throw of 41.09 meters to finish sixth and seventh in the events, respectively.

Colin Loughlin (Hingham, Mass.) also set a personal record as he finished third in the 800 Meter Run, finishing in 1:54.96.

Two other Raiders set outdoor personal records in events, highlighted by freshman Luke Myers’ (Mohnton, Pennsylvania) with his time of 1:59.69 in the 800 Meter Run. Senior Austin Perez (Manlius, New York) also set an outdoor personal record, running the 400 Meter Race in 52.12 seconds to finish sixth overall but first in his section.

Oliver Moe (Bronx) finished third in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 49.99 seconds while Anthony Castillo (Los Angeles, Calif.) also finished in the top five, coming in fourth place with a time of 50.77 seconds to tie his season-best time.

The Raiders rounded out an impressive meet with a second-place finish of the 4×400 Meter Relay race with a time of 3:27.58 seconds for their best time of the 2017 season.
