The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming softball’s Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia) and golf’s Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 16.

Gamlen led Morrisville State from the plate in a slew of rescheduled games across the week, collecting 16 hits in 24 at-bats for a .667 batting average, while posting seven runs and three RBI’s. Two of her hits were doubles.

The junior was perfect from the plate twice on the week, going 4-for-4 with three runs against Cazenovia midweek, before putting together a 3-for-3 performance in game one against Wells on Saturday, where she also recorded a stolen base.

From her shortstop position she also collected 17 putouts and assisted 28 in the field. Gamlen currently leads Morrisville State in batting with a .404 average, and a slugging percentage of .462.

A graduate of Cazenovia High, Gamlen is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Tammy and Fred Gamlen of Cazenovia.

Martin led Morrisville State men’s golf team to a second-place finish at the SUNY Cobleskill Mid-Atlantic Invitational on Friday.

The senior shot a career-best 79 (+8 par) while finishing second overall among 21 competitors at the event, after forcing a two-hole playoff with the eventual individual medalist from Cobleskill.

Earlier in the week, he was the top golfer for the Mustangs at the Keuka College Spring Invitational, finishing the match with a score of 85 strokes (19th place individual) to lead Morrisville State to an eighth team place.

The senior is a graduate of Findlay High and is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. He is the son of Tiffani and Thomas Martin of Findlay.
