A project created by artist Joseph Murphy, entitled 40, was selected as one of the Top 25 award-winning entries in the Illustration category of a highly selective and recognized competition sponsored by Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art & Design magazine.

Now in its 12th year, the magazine recognizes outstanding creative work produced by artists, graphic designers, illustrators and photographers from around the world. A complete list of this year’s 100 Best winners from all four categories is available at www.cqjournal.com/annual.

To be selected as a 100 Best Winner, entry winners from the magazine’s quarterly competitions move on to the year-end competition where 25 winners in each category are selected by a jury. This year’s judging panel included Caitlin Karolczak, fine artist; Reiner Hebe, Hebe Webeagentur, graphic designer; Page Tsou, illustrator; and Daniel Featherstone, photographer.

Each year, winners represent countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America. All winning projects will be prominently featured in the 128-page, hardbound 100 Best annual coming out in May 2017.

Entries were judged according to the following criteria: how well does the entry communicate, how memorable or unique is the entry, and how strong is the entry aesthetically.

Project title: 40

Medium: Copper point, gouache, watercolor, tar

Size: 24”x27.5”
