Carson E. Clabeaux of New Woodstock was among 60 members of The University of Scranton’s undergraduate class of 2017 honored for academic excellence, service or both at Class Night on May 26 on campus.

Students with the highest GPA in each of the University’s three undergraduate colleges were presented Frank J. O’Hara Awards for General Academic Excellence, a memorial to the late administrator who served the University for 53 years. Students were also recognized for excellence within their various disciplines.

Clabeaux was the recipient of The Military Science Leadership Award. He graduated cum laude with a major in biology with a double minor in biochemistry and leadership. He is the top ranked cadet in The University of Scranton’s Military Science Level IV class of 23.

Clabeaux was selected as a Distinguished Military Student by the Professor of Military Science and a Distinguished Military Graduate. He was designated as the top 20 percent of Cadets on the national order of merit list. He also received an outstanding rating, top 15 percent of cadets, on the advanced camp evaluation during cadet summer training 2016. He served with distinction as the Cadet Battalion Commander for this school year and will be an exceptional Army officer upon commissioning in May 2017.

He also participated in diverse training during the Army’s Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency in Romania and an Army Medical Department internship at Fort Lewis. Clabeaux has been recognized for superior performance and received the Military Order of the World Wars Leadership Award, United States Army Cadet Command Superior Cadet Award, Top Cadet of the Semester Award, Defense Logistics Agency Excellency Award, and a George C. Marshall nominee.

Clabeaux has been awarded a United States Army Health Professional Scholarship for his continued education with a goal to become an Army doctor. Clabeaux served as an official in numerous campus organizations and ROTC activities including The University of Scranton College Republicans Club president and vice president, Ranger Challenge Club vice president, Army 10 Miler team captain, Northeast PA Republicans Club chair member, and ROTC Color Guard member. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, he will serve in the United States Army Reserves and has been accepted to medical school at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Clabeaux is a graduate of Cazenovia Central School District, Cazenovia.
