Assemblyman Says State Is On Track With Damage Assessment & Continues To Log Total Costs Of Recent Mohawk Valley Flooding

Assemblyman Says As Soon As Assessment Is Complete, He Will Work With U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer To Deliver The Data To FEMA

Brindisi: We need To Get These Numbers Right, So Precision Is Key; Haste Makes Waste

New York State Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi released the following statement today providing Mohawk Valley residents with an update on the state damage assessment and the recent Mohawk Valley flooding:

“I had a very good call with Kevin Wisely, Director of the New York State Office of Emergency Management this morning and am encouraged to know the state is still logging, detailing and finalizing the damage costs of the flooding from this past weekend. This is good news because it means we have a better shot at actually hitting the federal thresholds enacted by law and required to receive federal aid. We do not want to simply rush this kind of thing because haste could cost all of us. It is better to get these numbers right than to get them hurriedly. I urged the state to do a thorough and comprehensive damage assessment and that is exactly the call they are now heeding. I expect to get the results soon and will personally hand them off to U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, who has already put FEMA on notice that they are coming.

I would urge anyone who still needs assistance with flood insurance to go to the New York State Department of Financial Services Mobile Command Center at the Whitesboro Fire Department, which will be open until 8 today, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow.  If you cannot go to the command center, the New York State Department of Financial Services hotline is available weekdays from 8:30 to 4:30 at 800-339-1759. If you need help with flood-related cleanup, you can call 2-1-1 for referral to the Red Cross or appropriate agencies.  Or you may contact the Community Foundation of Oneida and Herkimer Counties at 315-735-8212.”
