Three Herkimer College swimmers receive Scholar All-American Honors

Jensen VanNostrand (Macedon), Nicholas Lanckton (Holland Patent) and Jacob Cardinal (Newport) have received Scholar All-American Honors. The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America has selected a record 997 swimmers and divers for its Scholar All-America team this year.

The selections recognize students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

VanNostrand holds three school records. She competed in the NJCAA national championship meet for two seasons. She was named Women’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015-16 by Head Coach Vicki Brown She was also selected Women’s Second Team All-Region for her 200 FLY performance at this year’s Regional Championship meet. A Travel & Events Management major at Herkimer, VanNostrand will attend Buffalo State in the fall where she will continue to swim.

Lanckton holds three school records. He competed in the NJCAA national championship meet for two seasons. A General Studies major at Herkimer, Lanckton will attend Utica College in the fall.

Cardinal holds one school record and competed in the NJCAA national championship meet for two seasons. He was named Men’s Most Improved Player for the 2015-16 season and awarded Men’s Most Valuable Player for the 2016-17 by Head Coach Vicki Brown. An Engineering Science major at Herkimer, Cardinal will attend University of Buffalo in the fall. Head Coach Vicki Brown said, “We had another strong year but my favorite part about being a coach is watching my student-athletes reach their own potential. So much time, hard work and dedication goes into training and preparing for the season and when it all pays off, it is so exciting to witness. It’s an even greater moment when the student-athletes realize what they are capable of – the excitement and pride on their faces

It’s an even greater moment when the student-athletes realize what they are capable of – the excitement and pride on their faces is indescribable.”The Herkimer Generals athletic program won the 2016-17 National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators Cup, ranking Herkimer first in the nation among two-year college non-scholarship athletic programs.
