Join Commerce Chenango and the Hamilton Business Alliance Aug. 21 to experience the area’s premier eco-tourist destination while socializing with fellow community members. Sponsored by Log Cabin Books, the “Business After Hours” will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rogers Environmental Education Center on Route 80 in Sherburne.

During that afternoon, North America will be treated to one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights when the moon will completely cover the sun in a total eclipse. While Central NY is outside the path of the complete eclipse, viewers will see a partial eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk.

To commemorate this remarkable phenomenon, Friends of Rogers (FOR) has planned a variety of activities for the “Business After Hours,” including delicious refreshments, door prizes, and a performance by acoustic musicians Jes & Birdy of Norwich.

The two-hour, post-workday timeframe gives area professionals an opportunity to discuss and share ideas while learning about other local businesses. “Business After Hours” is a relationship-building experience in a relaxed setting, designed to benefit participants through added contacts and resources.

Founded in 2004, Log Cabin Books now has 17 titles. One of the few independent publishers remaining in Upstate New York, it features local authors across several genres that include local history, children’s books, personal finance, and fiction. While titles will not be sold during the “Business After Hours,” guests will have the opportunity to win door prizes from the publisher.

“We are extremely grateful to Log Cabin Books for once again making this ‘Business After Hours’ possible,” said Simon Solomon, FOR executive director. “This is a truly unique opportunity to view the solar eclipse. It’s been more than 100 years since a similar celestial event has occurred, so we are in for a real treat.”

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call (607) 674-4733 or visit FriendsofRogers.org.
