Rep. Claudia Tenney

Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s comments about Upstate New York:

“I hope President Trump’s comments about Upstate New York were taken out of context. Upstate has a rich history of manufacturing products used around the world. Bad policies passed down from Albany have driven people and businesses out of our state in record numbers, leading our region to become the rust belt of New York. Albany politicians have made our state among the highest taxed and regulated state in the nation garnering the title of the least friendly business climate in the country. Despite Albany’s attack on the Upstate economy, on the federal and local level, we are working to rebuild our beautiful state to bring jobs and businesses back to our community. I have full confidence that President Trump understands the struggle that upstate New York has experienced for decades, and why we need to continue to fight for policies that will revive our region. Just last week, I had the honor of attending a Made in America event at the White House with President Trump. The President praised the hard work and ingenuity of the founders of Sherrill Manufacturing for reviving the only flatware manufacturer in the nation with a brand appropriately known as Liberty Tabletop. Instead of urging people to leave our region, we should be working to implement policies that help small business owners and family farmers to draw people and jobs back to our region. Today, I renew my invitation for the President to visit our area and encourage him to come see the efforts we’re making to revive our once thriving economy.”
