Major Madison County meth lab operation terminated; three face serious charges

Madison County Undersheriff/Acting Sheriff John Ball announced this afternoon that an early morning raid on a suspected methamphetamine lab in Madison County has resulted in the arrests of three individuals and the termination of operations of a major meth lab.

Undersheriff John Ball

This morning’s operation was a result of an investigation into reported meth manufacturing at 1720 Canal Road, Oneida, by Madison County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators.

Ball said the Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit (SWAT) executed a raid just after 5 a.m. at the single-story dwelling. The lab was located in an adjacent structure, similar to a large storage shed.

“Specially trained tactical deputies made entry into the lab to find a very dangerous and active operation, contained in a highly caustic and volatile environment,” Ball said. “The deputies located and removed a female from the lab structure during their search.”

As a result, each person underwent extensive decontamination on the scene by EMS and fire department personnel on the scene.

“The location of the lab was a good distance from any other residence, so the public was not in danger during this incident, but it was in close proximity to a fairly busy roadway,” Ball said. “The lab environment was very explosive and hazardous, so with it rendered safe by the State Police CCERT team, I was comfortable reopening the roadway today shortly after 2 p.m.”

No neighboring residences required evacuation.

In total, approximately 9.33 ounces, or 261 grams, of meth was seized, with an approximate street value of more than $26,000. The scene was processed by CCERT, Sheriff’s investigators, deputies and evidence technicians.

Arrested and facing serious charges are:

Alan Blake, 55, of Oneida: one count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Felony) – more than two ounces of methamphetamine (total of approximately 9.33 ounces); one count of second-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine – prior conviction in last five years (C felony)

Brian James, 33, of Oneida: one count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Felony) – more than two ounces of methamphetamine (total of approximately  9.33 ounces); one count of third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine (D felony)

Nicole Delfino, 30, of Syracuse, one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Blake and James were arraigned this afternoon in Oneida City Court and remanded to the Madison County Jail without bail. Delfino was processed and released on an appearance ticket and will answer charges in Oneida City Court at a later date.

This investigation is continuing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, Oneida Fire Department, Oneida Police Department and Vineall Ambulance.
