The Madison County Personnel Department announced it will host several tests in September and October.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 8 for the Sept. 18 examination for registered professional nurse II

This is a professional nursing position in the Public Health Department that involves responsibility for coordinating individual patient care and for performing nursing services requiring substantial specialized judgment and skills. The incumbent is also responsible for training each new nursing staff on the department’s clinical nursing computer system for appropriate documentation of comprehensive patient assessments. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the director of Community Health Services and public health nurse II and in accordance with a prescribed nursing care plan.

Supervision may be exercised over the work of related auxiliary nursing personnel. The incumbent does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications: An associate’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited or New York state two-year college and at least three years of full-time paid nursing experience or its part-time equivalent; current licensure and registration to practice as a registered professional nurse in the state of New York at the time of application and maintenance of said license and registration for the duration of appointment. Note: Possession of a valid New York state driver’s license at time of application and maintenance of said license for the duration of appointment is required.

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of training and experience. The applicant is to include in the application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. The summary of training should include all college coursework, formal in-service training and seminars attended.

Specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensure. Specify the date that license was first issued.

In the summary of experience, specify dates of employment, the number of hours worked per week, title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in the applicant’s favor.

Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 8 for the Sept. 18 examination for occupational therapist

This is a professional position involving responsibility for evaluating, planning and providing occupational therapy treatment to patients in accordance with written prescription or referral from a physician who provides medical direction. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-ranking professional employee with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent professional judgment.

Supervision may be exercised over private occupational therapists with service contracts with the school district. The incumbent performs related work as required.

Minimum qualifications include (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York state registered four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy; or

(B) graduation from a regionally accredited or New York state registered four-year college or university and completion of an approved post graduate program in occupational therapy.

Licensure and current registration with the state Education Department to practice occupational therapy or a current temporary permit pending licensure by that department is required.

Special requirement for appointment in school districts: “Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of

2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.”

It is the responsibility of candidates to provide all necessary documentation and to complete all relevant parts of the application. To receive credit for experience–either qualifying or against a rating scale–you must show basic information such as employer name and address, name and title of supervisor, hours worked per week, dates of employment to include month and year started and ended, etc. A copy of a verifiable transcript for required education and a copy of the required license or professional certificate must be submitted.

This examination is prepared and will be rated in accordance with Section 23-2 of the Civil Service Law. The provisions of the New York State Civil Service Law, Rules and Regulations dealing with the rating of examinations will apply to this examination.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 8 for the Oct. 28 examination for Highway Crew Supervisor (promotional and open competitive)

This position supervises the activities of a work crew involved in highway and bridge construction and maintenance. The duties involve responsibility for the efficient and economical use of workers, materials and equipment in the construction and maintenance activities of the County Highway Department. The work is carried out in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.

The work is performed under the general supervision of the county highway superintendent, highway operations manager or designee with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment regarding the details of the work.

Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate personnel. The incumbent does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications: Open competitive: Three years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the construction or maintenance of bridges and/or paved highways.

Promotion: Limited to current employees of the Madison County Highway Department with at least three years of continuous permanent class status as a full-time motor equipment operator or heavy equipment operator in the department; or at least three years of continuous permanent class status as a full-time automotive mechanic in the department by the date of the written exam.

Possession of a valid state commercial driver’s license at the time of application and maintenance of said license for the duration of appointment is required.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 8 for the Oct. 28 examination for assistant director of administrative services

This professional work involves responsibility for assisting a Director of Administrative Services in the coordination and supervision of the fiscal and operating affairs of a County department. The incumbent assists in departmental budget preparation and administration, and assists in policy development and implementation in financial and administrative matters. The work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Administrative Services and/or the department head with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over subordinate paraprofessional and clerical staff. The incumbent does related work as required.
Minimum qualifications include either: A) Graduation from a New York state registered or regionally accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, public administration or a closely related field and two years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent in business administration, accounting or a closely related field; or B) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and six years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent as defined in (A); or C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Successful completion of graduate study in a field listed in (A) above or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

This position supervises the activities of work crews involved in highway and bridge construction and maintenance. This class may be distinguished from the Highway Crew Supervisor in that the incumbent has the authority to supervise and direct Highway Crew Supervisors, Head Auto Mechanics, and other subordinate personnel. The incumbent does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications include: Open competitive: Four years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the construction or maintenance of bridges or paved highways, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. Promotional: Limited to current employees of the Madison County Highway Department with at least one year of full-time permanent competitive class status as a Highway Crew Supervisor by the date of the written exam.

Possession of a valid state commercial driver’s license at the time of application and maintenance of said license for the duration of appointment is required.
