Former Academic All-American Takes On Assistant Coaching Role

Colgate softball head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers has announced the addition of Amanda Fazio as the Raiders’ assistant coach for the 2018 season.

Fazio comes to Colgate after a one-year stint as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Denison University. Prior to that, she was a two-time All-Patriot League player and the 2016 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Bucknell.

“I am so excited to have Amanda join me on staff here at Colgate,” said Lamison-Myers. “She brings a wealth of knowledge to our pitching staff as well as our outfielders.  She proved to be a talented player in the Patriot League I look forward to Amanda making a huge impact on our staff.”

During her one season at Denison, Fazio helped guide the Big Red to a NCAC Championship game appearance and 29-16 overall record. She was responsible for assisting in the creation and execution of daily training plans and fully running the pitching staff. Fazio led in the identification, evaluation and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

“I could not be happier to be back in the Patriot League as a part of the Raider family,” said Fazio. “I strongly believe that my experiences at Denison and Bucknell will translate well to Colgate Softball. I cannot wait to start working in the bullpen and with our talented student-athletes.”

Fazio was a four-year starter and two-time All-Patriot League honoree at Bucknell. She holds Bison the program record for career strikeouts (464), as well as single-season records for wins (19), strikeouts (164) and stolen bases (26). The Chatham, N.J. native led the Bison to Patriot League Tournament appearances in all four years of her career, as well as a pair of championship trips in 2014 and 2015. A talented two-way player, Fazio hit .347 as a senior while tallying a 1.81 ERA in the circle.

A strong all-around student-athlete, Fazio was named the 2016 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors during her senior year. She was a four-time NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete honoree. Fazio was awarded the ‘Ray Bucknell Diversity Award and the Bryan-Humphreys Award at the conclusion of her senior season.

Fazio graduated magna cum laude from Bucknell with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies in 2016. She made Dean’s List every semester and was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society and the Phi Sigma Biology Honors Society.
