On Aug. 23, 2017, at approximately 9:25 p.m., State Police in Herkimer responded to 3677 State Route 5 in the town of Schuyler for an intoxicated male with a long gun.
When patrols arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside his residence. After several hours of negotiation the suspect, James W. Witham, age 51, surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
Witham was charged with (6) counts of Menacing in the Second Degree, a class “A” misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Newport Court and remanded to the Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Witham is due back in the Town of Schuyler Court at a later date.
