Ribbon-cutting includes dedication of rooms to longtime volunteers

The carpet is fresh, there’s a huddle space with a treadmill and an exercise ball, and staff of the American Heart Association are happily settling in to the new offices at 125 Business Park Drive, Suite 106, Utica.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association invites the community to join them as they cut the ribbon to officially open the new office. The ribbon cutting will take place promptly at 4:30 p.m.

“All of us are excited to continue the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association in our new space,” said Jennifer Balog, executive director of the Greater Utica American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association. “We will continue to strive to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and hope all of our volunteers and supporters are able to join us to celebrate the new space that will be our home.”

Four areas are being named for volunteers, who have made significant contributions to the mission of the American Heart Association. They or their families will be at the ribbon cutting.

The conference room will be named for Jim Stasaitis, who has served as the event logistical chair of America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk for more than 20 years, continuing the tradition of raising $1 million each year.

Anne Schug-Williams was a longtime Go Red For Women volunteer who passed away this past spring. The space dedicated to her memory will be a permanent reminder of the dedication of volunteers and their voices as advocates for women’s heart health.

The welcome area is dedicated to the “Friends and Family” teams who have made the Heart Run & Walk one of America’s Greatest.

The collaboration room is being dedicated to Helen Robinson, long-time volunteer and youth advocate tragically lost in 2014.  Helen’s commitment to collaboration moved the needle on efforts in childhood obesity and increasing the importance of physical activity.
