Carrier Corporation and Baltimore Woods Help Syracuse City Students in Hands-on Rain Garden Revitalization Project

WHAT:
As a long-standing sponsor of the Nature in the City program, Carrier Corporation is planning a hands-on workday at Seymour Dual Language Academy with fifth grade students to restore and re-plant the rain garden at their school. Additionally, volunteers and students will plant flowers in the newly constructed flower beds in front of the school as part of an initiative by the Syracuse School District and clean up the neighborhood directly surrounding the school as part of the Onondaga County Save the Rain #BlockLitter campaign. Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s Nature in the City education team will be on hand to teach students about the important role rain gardens play in improving water quality in the local watershed and to assist Carrier employees in their work project. Onondaga County Save the Rain installed the rain garden in 2012 and is collaborating with Baltimore Woods Nature Center on plant selection for the project. The school rain garden will be used in ongoing Nature in the City lessons.
