The Canastota Public Library is pleased to present An Accordion Renaissance with John Taibi Thursday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. John Taibi has specialized in writing and talking about railroads and railroading throughout New York state for many years but the library recently learned that he loves the musical instrument, “The Accordion.”

The year was 1958 and John Taibi began lessons on the accordion, one of the most studied instruments in the country at the time. In the 1950s and 60s, the accordion was one of the most studied instruments in the country and purchases of accordions soared to over 250,000 by the middle of the decade. In most
neighborhoods, there was someone who knew how to play!

John will dust off the accordion he learned to play in the 1960’s—a full-sized Piano Accordion. During the evening presentation, participants will learn stories of the love, loss and reunion of John and the Accordion as well as some of John’s favorite songs including “I’m in the Mood for Love,” “Summertime in Venice,” Pennsylvania and Beer Barrel Polkas and so much more.

Whether you love the music of the accordion or if you’ve never heard an accordion previously, the library hopes you will come out for an evening of entertainment, education and enjoyment. There may even be some dancing in the stacks!

If you play the accordion or have one that you would like to display for the performance, please come early and talk to John Taibi. The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center St., Canastota.
