SUNY Canton’s Davis Health Center is holding an undergarment drive and fundraiser to raise awareness about women’s health.

The college will be collecting new or gently used bras for a “Bras Across Campus” event scheduled for 10 a.m.Oct. 26 in the Southworth Library Learning Commons. All of the donations will be hung up to remind viewers about breast cancer prevention.

“The distinctive display will be used as a visual aid to emphasize the importance of self-breast exams,” said Health Educator and Wellness Coordinator Farren C. Lobdell. “SUNY Canton is one of only 25 colleges to participate in the campaign.”

Approximately 120 bras have already been collected during the drive. All donations will be distributed locally. Drop-off locations include the Wellness Promotions office in Campus Center room 134 near Rendezvous, and at the Southworth Library. There will also be an informational table for the project during the college’s Oct. 24 Health Fair.

Lobdell also mentioned a fundraising component for this campaign. Students, faculty and community members can donate to the Feel Your Boobies Foundation, which provides the college’s breast cancer prevention educational materials. The campus-wide goal is $500, with prizes at three giving levels.
