The Madison County Historical Society cordially invites all of its members and the public to the society’s Annual Luncheon and Program Sunday, Oct. 29, at Origlio’s Wagon Wheel Restaurant located at 212 Main St., Oneida, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Matt Urtz’s program, “Woman Suffrage in Madison County” will explain the roles local civic groups played supporting and fighting against Woman Suffrage as well as the impact these organizations had on statewide efforts to gain or stop Woman Suffrage.

Madison County had pro and anti-suffrage organizations and both were led by prominent women in the county.  This year is the 100thanniversary of women receiving the right to vote in New York State. Matt Urtz was appointed the Madison County Historian in April 2010.  He also serves on the Cabinet of Freedom for the National Abolitionist Hall of Fame and Museum and as the First Vice-President and Regional Coordinator for the Association of Public Historians in New York State. Matt makes more than 30 public and private speaking presentations a year on all things Madison County.

The luncheon menu to be served at 1:30 pm includes: chicken riggies, meatballs, sausage, salad, and tea and coffee. Tickets for the annual lunch and program are $18. Tables of 4 and 8 are available. Reservations are required by Oct. 20. The Madison County Historical Society will be selling raffle tickets throughout the event.

Prizes range from the many handmade craft items donated by the talented crafter artisans at this year’s 53rd Annual Craft Days. Tickets for the raffle items are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning tickets will be drawn at the annual meeting; winner(s) need not to be present to win. All proceeds benefit restoration at the Madison County Historical Society. Other ongoing raffle tickets will also be sold throughout the event.

The lunch starts at 1:30 pm. The program follows the luncheon at approximately 2:30 pm. Please contact the Madison County Historical Society at 315-363-4136315-361-9735, or history@mchs1900.org for more information, directions, or to make a reservation.
