On Thursday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., a group of concerned local residents will hold a press event outside Congresswoman Claudia Tenney’s New Hartford office to urge her to vote no on the GOP tax plan currently being debated in the House of Representatives. A final vote on the bill is expected later on Thursday.

The bill would cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent and reduce taxes on wealthy business owners and the idle rich. The bill would also raise taxes on thousands of New York families through the elimination of the state and local tax deduction for non-property taxes, forcing many New Yorkers to be double-taxed and pay (federal) taxes on their (state) taxes.

Tenney has previously denounced Republican plans to eliminate the SALT deduction, but she has not yet indicated how she will vote on the bill.

According to her Federal Election Commission filings so far this year, Tenney’s re-election campaign has accepted over $200,000 from corporations that will benefit from the tax bill. The question for Tenney is simple: Will she side with her constituents and do everything in her power to defeat this tax hike? Or will she side with her corporate benefactors and support it?
