Colgate Captains Honored For Success In The Classroom
Colgate volleyball senior Lauren Sanderson and junior Peighton McRobie both earned spots on the Academic All-Patriot League team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
Sanderson holds an impressive 3.79 cumulative grade point average as an English major. The London, Ontario native has put together a standout senior season in which she leads the Patriot League and ranks first in all 41st in all of Division I with 10.82 assists per set through the regular season. Sanderson registered 10 double-doubles this season, a mark that ranks second-best on the team. Sanderson’s strong setting helped Colgate to an 18-10 overall record and 9-7 mark in Patriot League play. Sanderson is a three-time Patriot League and Raider Academic Honor Roll member. She earns the first Academic All-League honor of her career.
McRobie owns an outstanding 3.89 GPA as an English major. She tallied 317 digs, 43 assists and 28 aces this season, seeing action in all 100 sets the Raiders played in. The Laguna Beach, Calif. native ranked third on the team in digs and first in aces. The junior captain is a two-time Patriot League and Raider Academic Honor Roll member and picks up the first Academic All-League honor of her career.
Sanderson, McRobie and the Raiders just missed a spot in the Patriot League Tournament as Lehigh and Colgate both finished the league season with 9-7 marks, but the Mountain Hawks earned the final spot based on the league’s tiebreaker procedures. Colgate is one of four Patriot League teams to have been contacted by the NIVC. The NIVC (National Invitational Volleyball Championship) returns for the first time since 1995 and looks much like college basketball’s postseason WNIT. The Raiders will find out their fate regarding the NIVC Nov. 26.
