The Horned Dorset Inn will conclude its 2017 dinner-concert series on Sunday, Dec. 10 with “Evening of French Song,” a special nod to the country that first flavored the recipes of this fine dining establishment when it opened here 40 years ago.
The inn’s favorite musical couple—Soprano Johana Arnold and her husband and Pianist Kim Paterson—will be joined for this holiday celebration by their daughter Barbara Arnold Paterson, a fast-rising star of concerts and opera in her adapted country of New Zealand.

The event begins at 4 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by the concert at 5 p.m. and then dinner.  The cost is $68 per person, excluding beverages, tax and gratuity. Reservations should be made by calling (315) 855-7898 or visiting the inn’s website at  www.horneddorsetinn.com. Proceeds benefit the Horned Dorset Colony, an affiliated non-profit artist residency program.

The menu includes an appetizer of corn-fried oyster with sweet chili remoulade, smoked salmon mousse Napolean and Bronzino with crab and almond; a romaine salad with fennel, celery root, dates and creamy peppercorn dressing; a main course of spice-roasted duck with orange and cranberry sauce, studded rice, winter vegetables, and maple-roasted carrots; and a dessert of red velvet Buche de Noel, chocolate cinnamon ganache and eggnog ice cream.

Ms. Arnold sings regularly as a soloist with the Folger Consort in Washington, D.C., teaches voice at Hartwick College, and enjoys a lively career combining musical theater, acting and singing with such groups as Orpheus Theater, the Catskill Symphony, and the Catskill Choral Society.  For many years, she was a member of the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble in New York City, also performing there with the Ensemble for Early Music, Concert Royal, and the New York Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.  She also has performed in operas in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America and with ensembles that included Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Meredith Monk.
Mr. Paterson recently retired from a teaching career spanning more than 25 years as instructor of piano and staff accompanist at both SUNY College at Oneonta and Hartwick College.  During those years, he performed hundreds of concerts in association with the two colleges and was one of the busiest and most in-demand keyboardists in Central New York.  He appeared not only in programs with his wife and other leading soloists, but also with ensembles such as the Catskill, Utica, Schenectady and Clinton Symphonies, the Catskill Choral Society, and the Orpheus Theater in Oneonta.  As a music student, he spent three summers as a fellow at Tanglewood, where he and Johana first met.  He continues as organist and choirmaster at the First Presbyterian Church, in Oneonta.
