Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) announced that his annual food drive collected 683 pounds of food for families in Central New York. This year’s drive took place from Nov. 27 to Jan. 3.

“Unfortunately, far too many families struggle just to put food on the table,” said Stirpe. “Our community came together and made an outstanding effort to combat food insecurity and hunger in our region. I’d like to thank the local libraries and generous Central New Yorkers who took part in helping those in need this holiday season.”

Food collected during Assemblyman Stirpe’s yearly drive was donated to the Food Bank of Central New York, which serves over 350 food programs – including 262 emergency food programs – in central and northern New York. In the 11 counties the Food Bank of Central New York serves, there are over 180,000 food insecure individuals, 30 percent of whom are children.

Stirpe partnered with local libraries to help combat hunger and food insecurity in the region. Participating libraries included Fayetteville Free Library, Liverpool Public Library, Manlius Library, Minoa Library, Northern Onondaga Public Library at Brewerton, Cicero and North Syracuse and Tully Free Library.
