Fritz’s Polka Band returns to Cleveland, Ohio

Fritz’s Polka Band of Verona, along with special guest Rocko Dorsey, will be returning to Cleveland, Ohio, for the Thanksgiving Polka Weekend, Nov. 23 and 24, 2018. This event will be held at the Cleveland Marriott at Key Center, 127 Public Square, Cleveland. FPB is scheduled to perform Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

In addition, the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame wanted to honor FPB’s 40th anniversary in a special way, so FPB will be performing to start off the CSPHOF Awards Show at the Marriott during the afternoon of Nov. 24.

“The guys in my band are eager to return for this event and perform twice as part of the Thanksgiving Polka Weekend and then also during the awards show,” said Fritz Scherz, FPB bandleader. “We’re so thrilled that the Polka Hall of Fame wanted to honor our 40th anniversary by having us perform during the award show. All of the performing we’ll be doing is going to be a blast; plus, with FPB, as well as each band member, being nominated for some national awards that will be given out during the awards show, we’re excited.

“Meanwhile, we’re delighted to have a bunch of our friends going on a bus trip to these gigs. We’ve got some surprises planned, too, for the friends going with us. Joining us for these gigs will be our good friend of many years, Rocko Dorsey. Rocko was even featured earlier this year by Gretsch Guitars on their website.”

Oct. 14, 2018, marked the 40th anniversary of Fritz’s Polka Band. FPB made history in 1999 by becoming the first polka band to play at a Woodstock Festival. FPB has made 18 recordings and appears on “The Manchurian Candidate” DVD, released in 2004. In 2011, FPB had two songs (‘Grandparent’s Polka’ and ‘Here Is Fritz’s Polka Band’) included in two episodes of the TV show, ‘Breaking Bad.’

In 2013, FPB released its 18th recording, a double live CD entitled, “The WSKG Sessions.” Last year, FPB was nominated for three Just Plain Folks Music Awards, and each member was nominated for national awards by the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame. In August 2018, FPB and each band member were again nominated for national awards by the CSPHOF.
