State police seek public assistance with identifying an individual in surveillance photo

UPDATED INFORMATION:
On March 6, 2019, the complainant contacted state police and advised that a man contacted him, paid him for the wood that was taken and no longer desired to have any criminal action taken against the individual.

The investigation is now closed.


State police in Watertown are investigating a larceny of firewood from a roadside stand in the town of Ellisburg, Jefferson County.

On Feb. 17, at 7:24 a.m., a male is seen on security camera taking six bundles of firewood from a roadside trailer without leaving the $30 in the seller’s lockbox located on the trailer.

The suspect vehicle appears to be a green Chevy Silverado (Z71) pickup truck with a silver running board.

If anyone can identify the individual in the photo above, they are asked to contact State Police Headquarters in Oneida at 315.366.6000. All information will be kept confidential.

Five individuals charged with prostitution in the city of Utica

The New York State Police Special Investigation Unit, in conjunction with the Oneida County District Attorney’s office conducted a Prostitution detail in the city of Utica, targeting websites soliciting sex via the internet.

As a result, the following individuals were each charged with one count of prostitution:

  • Reggie N. Smith Jr., 22, of 827 Jay St., Utica
  • Nicole T. Maher, 39, of 409 Park Ave., Utica
  • Kafaya A. Sweet, 24, of 112 Glahn Ave., Syracuse
  • Rhiannon M. Briggs, 35, of 118 Thomas St., Utica
  • Dominique M Lanaux, 32, of 1112 Oriskany St., Utica

Lanaux was also charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

All defendants were transported and held at Oneida County Jail for Utica City Court arraignment.
