John Rogers

If you ever wanted to learn all about bluebirds, this program is for you. Bluebird expert John Rogers will give a PowerPoint presentation at the Great Swamp Conservancy, 8375 N. Main St., Canastota, at 1 p.m. March 30. Rogers’ program will include the nesting cycle (building nests, egg laying, raising young, etc.) and proper use of bluebird boxes.

Rogers maintains hundreds of bluebird boxes and has fledged more than 13,000 bluebirds.

Rogers opens hearts and minds to bluebirds, other birds, butterflies, wildflowers and nature appreciation with his visually beautiful photographs, bird sounds and sincere, enthusiastic presentation style. He is the co-founder of the NYS Bluebird Society, life member of the North American Bluebird Society and member of the Onondaga Audubon Society. He has won many awards for his work, including the North American Bluebird Society Conservation Award in 1992 in Minneapolis and the John and Nora Lane Award for Bluebird Conservation in Athens, Ga., in 2007.

Admission for the presentation is $4 for non-members and $3 members.

After the presentation you may build your own bluebird nest box. This is a hands-on learning experience using pre-cut lumber. All materials and tools provided for $12. Pre-registration is required for those wishing to build a bluebird box.

  1. Good. I have had Bluebirds in my yard since 1976. It was a mistake by the first family because they moved into a smaller sized tree swallow box and thrived. I have been making regular Blue bird boxes since and many of mine are scattered around this , Hamilton , Poolville, Earlville area since.
