Madison County invites you to celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, at its Buyea Road residential station, 6666 Buyea Road, Canastota.

At this event, the Department of Solid Waste will be launching a new campaign that will help residents “Rethink Waste in Madison County.”

As part of the campaign, the Department of Solid Waste will be introducing an online search tool and a reorganized website. The search tool will allow residents to look up specific items for proper disposal and recycling instructions, as well as look up facility hours and upcoming collection events.

Opportunities April 27 include:

  • Tours of the recycling operations at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon
  • Picking up new recycling bins
  • Bringing home a new recycling guide and magnet
  • Learning about the new program changes and resources
  • Taking home a free tree seedling (limited to the first 100 visitors)
  • A coloring contest (for kids up to 12 years old)

In addition, the Department of Solid Waste will be partnering with the Sheriff’s Department to host a safe pill collection during the Buyea Road Earth Day event. Residents dropping off prescription drugs are asked to keep the medications in their original containers. Liquid medications and sharps will not be accepted.

While the main Earth Day event will be at the Buyea Road residential station, residents can also visit their local transfer stations in Hamilton, Sullivan and Cazenovia during this time to pick up new recycling bins and resources.
