At 3 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019, and Saturday, May 18, 2019; and at noon Saturday May 18, visitors may discover what’s behind closed doors at the Oneida Community Mansion House.

Participants will visit the historic landmark’s basements, towers, kitchen and collections storage to see rarely displayed objects from the OCMH collections. This walking tour will take visitors into every section of the building, lead them up and down 12 sets of stairs and address the myths and rumors about Community life.

This tour is not handicapped-accessible.

Due to limited space, a reservation is required. The cost of the tour is $5 for members of OCMH, $15 for non-member adults and $10 for students (ages 8 and older). Tickets may be purchased on Eventbrite at eventbrite.com/e/behind-the-scenes-tour-tickets-6026569130, or visit oneidacommunity.org or Facebook for a direct link.

Proceeds benefit collection management, preservation and the interpretive mission of the Mansion House.

The Mansion House was the residence of the 19th century utopian Oneida Community (1848 – 1880), which rejected monogamous marriage and promoted female equality. OCMH preserves, collects and interprets material culture, intangible heritage and the historic building situated on 33 acres of landscaped lawns and gardens. OCMH is a National Historic Landmark and chartered by the state Department of Education.

The Mansion House is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.

The Oneida Community Mansion House is located at 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida. For more information, call 315.363.0745 or see oneidacommunity.org.
