State police seek public assistance with identifying an individual in surveillance photo

State police in Watertown is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying an individual in security camera photos regarding an attempted larceny investigation that occurred April 26, 2019, around 9:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store located at 20823 State Route 3, Watertown.

If anyone recognizes the individual in the surveillance photo, they are asked to contact State police Troop D Headquarters in Oneida at 315.366.6000. All calls can remain anonymous.

Teen arrested for allegedly threatening female student at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School

On April 29, 2019, state police responded to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School for a reported threat of school violence.

Following an investigation, troopers charged Eric J. Mahler, 19, of Oneida, with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony and second-degree aggravated harassment, a class A misdemeanor.

Mahler is accused of calling a female V-V-S High School student Sunday evening and threatening to “shoot-up” the high school on Monday and also to harm her parents. As a precautionary measure, all of the school buildings in the district were placed on lock-out. Investigators interviewed Mahler, who did not have any access to weapons and determined the threat not to be credible.

Mahler was processed at SP Oneida and transported to the Oneida County Jail for centralized arraignment.

Driver airlifted to Syracuse hospital after serious crash in Oneida County

UPDATED INFORMATION:

On April 29, at 5:52 p.m., Mr. Cady succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash. 


On April 29, 2019, at 2:04 p.m., state police responded to a one-vehicle crash on State Route 8 in Deerfield, Oneida County.

Investigation revealed a 2004 Ford pickup truck operated by 79-year-old Gerald G. Cady of Cold Brook was northbound on State Route 8 when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and exited off the west shoulder of the roadway, striking a tree.

Cady was extricated from the truck by Deerfield Fire Department and was airlifted by LifeNet to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where he was listed in critical condition. A 7-year-old passenger in the vehicle was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
