State Police seek public assistance with identifying an individual captured on surveillance photos

State police in Sylvan Beach are investigating a larceny that occurred at the Runnings Store located on Rome-Taberg Road in the city of Rome. On May 5, 2019, a male was captured on surveillance camera putting a DeWalt hammer drill (worth $159.99) down his pants and then exiting the store without paying.

The male is described as a white male, mid-30s, wearing a black hoodie with yellow shirt and blue jeans. He was last seen leaving the store on foot towards the inner city of Rome.

If anyone can identify the individual in these security photos, they are asked to contact state police at 315.366-6000. All information will be kept confidential.

Utica Man charged with patronizing a prostitute

On May 10, 2019, state police arrested John A. Stemen, 57, of Utica, for third-degree patronizing a prostitute, a class A misdemeanor.
Stemen was charged following an investigation involving a 17-year-old who he admitted to meeting via the internet and paying $200 for a sexual date.

Stemen was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court at 9 a.m. May 20, 2019.

State police in Oneida is investigating a larceny that occurred at the UPS Store located at 5880 Success Drive in the city of Rome. An unknown female was captured on a store security camera entering the store and picking up an iPhone ordered by someone else.

If anyone can identify the individual in the store security photo, they are asked to contact state police at 315.366.6000. All information will be kept confidential.

State police in Watertown are investigating a larceny that occurred March 25, 2019, at the Navy Federal Credit Union in LeRay.

An unknown male entered the credit union, found a debit card in an ATM and took it, later making a $500 charge.
