Canastota airman promoted to master sergeant in New York Air National Guard

Major General Raymond F. Shields, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the recent promotion of members of the New York Air National Guard’s 224th Air Defense Group in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Palmer of Canastota was recently promoted to master sergeant. Palmer is an identification technician at the 224th ADS.

The 224th ADG is composed of the 224th Air Defense Squadron and 224th Support Squadron, located in Rome, and Detachment 1 and Detachment 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C., area. The 224th ADG provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector’s mission. Part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the Sector is responsible for the air defense of the eastern U.S.

Oneida airman promoted to senior airman

Senior Airman Joseph Marji, right, was promoted to his new rank on May 6 during a ceremony at the Eastern Air Defense Sector in Rome. Lt. Col. Jeffrey Kerneklian, the incoming Commander of the 224th Support Squadron, served as the promoting officer.

Joseph Marji of Oneida was promoted May 6, 2019, to senior airman. Marji is cyber transport systems journeyman at the 224th Support Squadron.
