Library to host LEGO-building session for kids
The Cazenovia Public Library invites children ages 5 and older to the Community Room at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019, to channel their inner architects and get building! The “LEGO My Library” building session will feature a space vehicle challenge and time for creative construction.
The library is a place of imagination and discovery. Programs like “LEGO My Library” allow children to socialize, be creative and see their imaginings come to life.
Construction toys offer significant educational benefits to children of all ages. Not only is hands-on play fun and exciting, but it also helps to develop motor and spatial skills, ingenuity, critical thinking, social and language proficiencies and more.
Library to host junior book club
“The Wild and Wonderful Readers” junior book club will hold its next meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden Room. The session will combine book discussion, games and hands-on creative activities. The group will discuss Be Prepared, a nonfiction graphic novel memoir by Russian-born Vera Brosgol.
The novel follows 9-year-old Vera’s struggles to be accepted at a summer camp for Russian speakers.
The junior book club is open to children ages 9 to 14. Books are available at the circulation desk.
Library presents summer Explorer Days
This July, children ages 5 to 10 are invited to the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room for the first four installments of the Summer Explorer Day series. Children’s Program Coordinator Jenna Wright Martin will lead the hands-on workshops from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, July 10 through 31.
Each session is filled with fun and educational activities designed to keep children’s minds and bodies active all summer long.
In the first workshop, “Gravitational Bull,” participants will enjoy an interactive juggling show by father-son duo Kyle and Dave Fultz.
The second program, “Bio Art,” will provide children with the opportunity to create unique artwork with the Everson Museum of Art. Children will complete projects inspired by the work of pioneer bio artist Suzanne Anker, whose work is featured in the museum’s collection. Participants will be given a pass to return to the museum for free. Registration is required for this program. Stop by the library or call 315.655.9322 to reserve a spot.
During the “Marble Runs” program, participants will design and test marble runs made out of found and recyclable materials.
The final program, “Planetarium,” will feature space-themed crafts and activities, as well as time to use the library’s own planetarium to learn about our solar system.

Library partners with Izaak Walton League to present Young Naturalists
This summer, the Cazenovia Public Library will partner with the Izaak Walton League to present the Young Naturalists program series for children ages 7 and older. The engaging, hands-on programs are designed to get young people interested in science and connected to conservation and outdoor recreation. The series will run Mondays July 8 through Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. Each week, participants will become citizen scientists and learn about local ecology through activities, art projects and books.
The Izaak Walton League was founded in 1922 by 54 avid anglers dedicated to conserving outdoor America for future generations. The environmental organization is named after Izaak Walton, the 17th-century author of The Compleat Angler—a classic book about the art and spirit of fishing. The IWL is one of the first conservation organizations to set forth an aggressive course of action to defend wild America by changing public policy.

July brings adventure labs to the library
This July, the Cazenovia Public Library will present the first three installments of the Adventure Lab program series for children ages 8 to 12.
Sessions feature fun, hands-on activities focused on science, engineering, art and more.
Children’s Program Coordinator Jenna Wright Martin will lead workshops from 2 to 3 p.m. July 11 through 25 (Thursdays) in the Community Room.
Each program will focus on an exciting new project. Participants will be challenged to use lights to create unique artwork, explore pendulum music with Paul Leary and create a Ping-Pong ball maze.
