To the Editor:

I would like to encourage you to cover the Chittenango Village Board of Trustees as we celebrate the grand opening of the new playground equipment at Kirschenheiter Park. I hope that you will join us at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019.

The playground we are celebrating would not have been possible without the Oneida Indian Nation sharing the revenue from the Yellow Brick Road Casino with Madison County. Madison County then shares with Sullivan and Chittenango. Because of these funds, the village was able to purchase its first sizeable playground equipment. Two actually: One for big kids, and one for little kids.

We have since been able to use state funds for a third piece to also be located at Kirschenheiter Park, specifically for children with disabilities.

Since the initial installation last year, the playground has been the delight of children from the village and surrounding communities. We hope that you will be able to join us.

We will also be re-dedicating the park to Coach Kirschenheiter, a teacher, coach and community leader who passed away suddenly about the time that the park was first being built.

The park is located at 112 Hawthorne Way in Chittenango’s Hearthstone neighborhood.

  1. Hi. Can you tell me when the park was first established. My family name is kirschenheiter and my daughter is doing a heritage project a d thought it would be neat to include this park if it was established in the early 1900s. Her great great grandpa Herman Kirschenheiter moved to NY from Germany in 1910. Had 4 kids- Nicholas, Christina, Frank, and Hannah Kirschenheiter.

    Thank you
