Sept. 26, 2019: 22nd annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival screenings

Join over 100,000 film enthusiasts across the globe for the 22nd annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival — a weeklong contest (Sept. 26 through Oct. 6) that allows the audience to choose the winners.

The Cazenovia Public Library will screen the 10 finalists on Friday, September 27 at 1 and 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at in the Community Room.

The MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival salutes the creative talents of both the actors on screen and the directors behind the camera. The festival made its debut in 1998 when sixteen short films were projected onto the side of a truck on Little Italy’s Mulberry Street in New York City. It has since grown into a worldwide phenomenon.

This year, the finalists represent the best of 1250 submissions from 70 countries.

During the screening events, audience members at each viewing venue will be handed voting cards and asked to cast their ballots for their single favorite film and their favorite actor/actress. The votes will be tallied at each location and sent to the MANHATTAN SHORT Headquarters. The winner will be announced on Monday, Oct. 7 at manhattanshort.com.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library.

All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call 315.655.9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.

Oct. 4: The Five Families Ensemble to perform

On Friday, Oct. 4, the Cazenovia Public Library will host The Five Families Ensemble, directed by Monk Rowe.

The newly formed CNY musical group stretches the boundaries of the traditional chamber ensemble by combining sounds from each of the four instrument families — brass, woodwind, string and percussion — with the human voice.

With stellar musicianship, distinctive arrangements, and a repertoire that ranges from Beethoven to the blues, the ensemble appeals to audiences of all ages.

The Five Families Ensemble includes Liz Simchick (violin), Nick Fields (trumpet and baritone horn), Kristen Kopf (cello), Tom McGrath (percussion) and Monk Rowe (woodwinds and keyboards).

Rowe has a robust career as a performer, educator and composer.

In his position as the Joe Williams Director of the Fillius Jazz Archive at Hamilton College, he has personally interviewed over 300 jazz artists in an effort to preserve their unique and significant oral histories.

He is an active performer on saxophone and piano and has composed numerous works for a variety of ensembles.

This program is made possible with funds from the Friends of the Library and the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts.
