State Attorney General Letitia James, in conjunction with the Utica Police Department, will host a gun buy-back event From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at the Utica Recreation Center, 220 Memorial Parkway, Utica. The event will be held in the upper parking lot off Elm Street.

Payments by prepaid debit cards will be made as follows:

  • $25 for non-working or antique firearms
  • $50 for rifles and shotguns
  • $75 for handguns
  • $100 for assault weapons

Q: How do I bring a gun to the drop off site?

A: Guns must be unloaded, and placed in a plastic or paper bag, or box.

Q: Can I transport the firearm in a car?

A: Yes, but it must be unloaded and in the trunk in a plastic or paper bag, or box.

Q: When do I get the debit card for the firearm?

A: After the unloaded gun is received and screened by the officers, you will be issued a debit card in the appropriate amount.

Q: Can I turn in a non-working rifle or shotgun or pistol?

A: Yes, all are accepted.

Q: How many firearms can I turn in?

A: As many as you wish to provide.

Q: Can any member of the public turn in a gun?

A: Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible for this program.

Q: Do I need any identification to turn in a firearm?

A: No. This is an Amnesty program and no questions are asked of the person dropping off the firearm.
