UPD responds to multiple shots-fired calls; one critical. Police seek assistance from public

On Oct. 28, 2019, at 11:59 a.m., the Utica Police Department was dispatched to Hannaford Plaza for a shots-fired call with a victim.

Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old male with multiple gunshots wounds. It appeared that the victim was shot multiple times as he was sitting in his vehicle. The male was treated at the scene by the Utica Fire Department and transported to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition.

A crime scene was established and investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division are actively working the investigation. Investigators are speaking with witnesses and video surveillance evidence is being secured from the surrounding area.

The Utica Police Department was advised that as a result of the proximity of a school, the Utica City School District went into lockdown.

At 12:48 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Sunset Avenue at Avery Street for a shots-fired investigation. Once on scene, information was gathered that a suspect fired several shots, striking a vehicle. According to police, the intended victims are uncooperative with the investigation.

Right now, there is no evidence that the two incidents are related.
