An exhibit showcasing art created by SUNY Morrisville student and United States Army veteran Christopher Richards, of Eaton, is on display now through January in the Donald Butcher Library at the SUNY Morrisville campus.

Richards, who served as a combat medic, is an individual studies (pre-nursing) student. His work features charcoal and pencil, and color architectural drawings of countryside barns.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the library.

“As a veteran, I appreciate all of the freedom we have in this country,” Richards said of the exhibit, one of several events planned during the college’s celebration of Veterans Day.

Richards, formerly of Fayetteville, was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington, and Camp Williams in Utah while he was in the service. He plans to be a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CNRA).

The show is supported by the college’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity.

On Veterans Day

The college will hold a grand opening for its Veterans Lounge in Galbreath Hall at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. Speakers include SUNY Morrisville President David Rogers and New York State University Police Chief at SUNY Morrisville, Paul Field, a United States Army veteran who served with the 101st Airborne as a military police officer. Field also serves as the college’s Veterans Advocate.

Student Veterans of American Chapter

The campus is planning to start a chapter for Student Veterans of America (SVA). Student veterans interested in joining SVA can contact Paul Field at Fieldpg@morrisville.edu.
