Dan Buttermann announced today that he plans to seek the Democratic Party nomination for the 121st Assembly District seat, which includes Madison County and parts of Otsego and Oneida counties.

“I am honored to have served the Oneonta community in different ways over the years, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for 121st District of the New York State Assembly,” Buttermann said. “I am deeply concerned about the future of our district, state and country. I fear that failure to invest in the future of our economy today means that our next generation of upstate New Yorkers will find it harder and harder to stay.”

Buttermann is a member of the Oneonta City Schools Board of Education, the Board of Directors of Opportunities for Otsego and the Oneonta Concert Association. In 2017, Dan organized the planning team that presents the annual TEDx events in Oneonta, which bring together citizens from diverse backgrounds and experiences to hear inspiring ideas from the TEDx stage and to connect with each other. By taking this initiative, Buttermann has brought big ideas about farming, business development and leadership to his community.

Additionally, Buttermann has served on the Town of Oneonta Planning Board; is a member of the Oneonta Rotary Club, NAACP and Farm Bureau; performs clarinet regularly with the Oneonta Community Concert Band and the Catskill Symphony Orchestra and teaches courses on negotiation and organizational behavior at Hartwick College. He was named one of “20 under 40” by the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

“As your representative, I will use my knowledge and experiences in business and community service to lead on the issues of education, economic development, infrastructure, environmental protection and sustainability,” Butttermann said. “We are at a pivotal time in our state and country. We have the chance to protect our environment and build a rich, vibrant and sustainable economy that works for all New Yorkers at the same time.

“I’m excited for the future of New York and eager to be our voice and advocate for this important work in Albany.”

Buttermann graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in clarinet performance, and later from Southern Methodist University with a master of business administration degree. While at SMU, Buttermann was recognized as a Dean’s Circle student for his commitment to leadership development (90-plus hours of course work with community and business leaders) and community service through Court Appointed Special Advocates of Collin County, Prison Entrepreneurship Program and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Consulting Program.
