On the chilly afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, some three dozen adventurous souls – including Cazenovia College environmental biology students, members of the CNY Chapter of the North Country Trail Association and assorted young teenagers – donned rubber boots and waders to participate in a fish survey in Canastota Creek. They waded in near the footbridge where the North Country Trail crosses the creek, south of Canastota. Led by Professor Thad Yorks of the college (in the green pullover) and Scott Sellers of the NCTA, using screening weirs and an electrofisher, participants caught, identified and released a substantial number of brown trout and other fish species, as well as various small crustaceans.
