Join Blueox Energy and Gilligan’s to support Friends of Rogers on #GivingTuesday

Friends of Rogers will once again participate in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on Dec. 3, #GivingTuesday is held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off the holiday giving season, while #GivingTuesday inspires people to improve their communities by donating to local charities.

To encourage support of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Blueox Energy will match any donation made to Friends of Rogers on #GivingTuesday, up to a total match amount of $500.

Those interested in making a special #GivingTuesday donation to be matched by Blueox Energy are asked to process gifts through friendsofrogers.org/get-involved/#make-a-gift anytime from midnight until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 3. You can choose to use the “Donate Now” button to use your credit card or the “Make a Gift” button to use PayPal.

For the fourth consecutive year, Gilligan’s of Sherburne will offer a #GivingTuesday opportunity in support of Rogers Center. From 4 p.m. until close, 20 percent of evening meal proceeds will be donated to Friends of Rogers. All you do is mention Friends of Rogers or Rogers Center when you order, and you are helping Friends of Rogers while enjoying your meal.

“We are extremely grateful to Blueox and Gilligan’s for partnering with us,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “We appreciate the support of both organizations.  We hope community members take advantage of these special opportunities so that their financial support can have the greatest impact possible at Rogers Center.”

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Join Friends of Rogers to create a festive holiday wreath during one of their popular seasonal workshops Dec. 7. Three sessions will be offered: one begins at 9:30 a.m., another at 11:30 a.m. and the last starts at 1:30 p.m. Participants will receive instructions and all materials necessary to design and build this traditional decoration. Participants are encouraged to bring a set of pruners, if you have them, and any additional decorations you would like to personalize your custom creation.

All the greens are generously donated by R Tree Farm in Earlville. Visions Federal Credit Union is sponsoring the event for the third year in a row. The generosity of both R Tree Farm and Visions Federal Credit Union offset the cost of this program, making it the most affordable option in the area.

“We are grateful to Visions Federal Credit Union for partnering with us again this year,” said Solomon. “This generous investment is inspiring, as it has enabled us to continue this popular program for a fifth consecutive year.”

“We encourage groups of friends or family to make this a new holiday tradition.” said Heather Tehan, director of development. “We offer assistance and help you make a beautiful traditional holiday decoration with natural materials for only $15; it’s a great program.”

The program is designed for ages 12 and up, for safety of participants using pruners. Space is limited; advance registration is strongly encouraged. Cost is $12 for members or $15 for not-yet-members. Call 607.674.4733 to register with payment or come into the Visitor Center.

The workshops will be held in the Visitor Center on State Route 80 in Sherburne; the center is accessible.
