Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) finished another successful annual food drive Thursday, Jan. 2, in partnership with the Food Bank of Central New York. Residents across the 127th Assembly District donated items such as canned foods, rice, pasta and grains, dinner mixes, stews, peanut butter and more at a host of drop-off locations in the community. In total, 520 pounds of food were donated to be distributed to families in need.

“No one deserves to go hungry,” said Stirpe. “I’m so thankful to everyone who donated for supporting the Food Bank of Central New York and the less fortunate families in our communities. Together, we helped make their holiday season brighter.”

The Food Bank of Central New York serves 11 counties throughout central and northern New York, providing 14 million pounds of food to thousands of needy families every year.[1] Food insecurity has become a growing issue, with more than half of shelters, soup kitchens and pantries in the United States reporting an increase in residents utilizing their services.[2] Supporting organizations like the Food Bank of Central New York goes a long way in the fight against hunger, Stirpe said.
