To the Editor:

I would like to thank all of Madison County for the support and participation in the 2019 Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign. Without the donations from citizens, the large and small businesses holding toys collections and toy drives, we could not have succeeded.

This year, we provided toys to more than 1,000 children. Each child was given a large toy and a small toy, stocking stuffers, book and a family game.

Our campaign continues to grow, and work takes place year round, not only during the Christmas season. I hope that this is seen and more citizens, businesses, groups and clubs will join us and help us give these kids a Christmas, or they may not have one at all.

A very special thanks to Rick Stevens, owner of ZEMS and Rick’s Rags and his generous family for their wonderful donations, their availability and wonderful help each year. Thank you also to the Oneida Elks Lodge and SUNY Morrisville for donating your buildings for toy distribution.

Thank you to the volunteers who put in many hours of counting, sorting, bagging and arranging toys.

A sincere thank you to our Marine veterans from the Emerald City and Oneida Marine Corps Leagues for their endless devotion toward picking up boxes from businesses, bringing them to our warehouse, passing out toys and making people smile.

To the communities as a whole, thank you for giving from your heart and making Christmas a priority for our children: Every child deserves a little Christmas.

If you would like to volunteer, run a toy drive or host a fund raiser, visit canastota-ny.toysfortots.org and help make a difference.

Roni Jo Trujillo, Volunteer coordinator of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots of Madison County
