Brindisi: These funds will help increase access to affordable housing

Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced a six-figure grant through NeighborWorks America to support access to affordable housing. Brindisi announced that the Utica Home Ownership Center will receive $237,500 in federal grant funds as a member of the national NeighborWorks network. These funds will support efforts to develop and preserve affordable housing, revitalize and sustain neighborhoods, and create jobs.

“The Mohawk Valley is an incredible place to start a business, raise a family, and live a great life, and all of our community members deserve a roof over their heads,” Brindisi said. “These critical funds will help increase access to affordable housing for families across the Mohawk Valley. I am proud to fight every day for resources that will help our community thrive.”

The NeighborWorks program promotes reinvestment in urban, suburban, and rural communities by partnering and financing with organizations like the Utica Home Ownership Center to increase access to housing for communities.

According to their mission statement, the Utica Home Ownership Center envisions communities in Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Fulton, Montgomery and Otsego counties that thrive by encouraging homeownership with education, financially responsible and empowered individuals, to create safe, stable and prosperous neighborhoods. Brindisi’s work was praised by local housing advocates.

“As a NeighborWorks America chartered organization for over 40 years we are pleased to receive another year of appropriations,” said Danielle Smith, CEO of the Utica Home Ownership Center. “This critical funding enables us to improve housing conditions throughout the Mohawk Valley, creating opportunities for our families and neighborhoods. The Home Ownership Center appreciates Congressman Brindisi’s continued support that makes these much needed funds available to our communities.”
