When this is published, we will have been closed more than 30 days. It is so very hard for me to fathom this number and that we will have to continue not serving our patrons at this time. We have decided to remain closed longer than our initial target date of April 14, 2020, for the safety of the public. We will now be closed through Saturday May 2.

All programs will be cancelled through May 31, 2020 and possibly longer as right now it is not safe for social gathering events to happen. We will reevaluate opening near the end of April. When we know a date that we can reopen or offer other services we can provide from afar, I will update social media, our website, the signs posted on the door and our answering machine, so please check them out from time to time.

Some reminders: our book drop is closed, so please keep all of our materials, as they have been renewed for you until we reopen. If you are trying out our digital services and need help, have problems with your library card number etc., want to check out e-books, watch movies, get audiobooks, read magazines and need help, email me at mrounds@midyork.org, and I will get you the help you need.

Be sure to check out some of the virtual programs we are doing. The first one is our Lego building contest. Did you know that April 21 is World Creativity and Innovation Day? We are calling Lego enthusiasts of all ages (1 to 100-plus-years-old) to build a Lego creation based on one of the holidays featured on our Facebook page and website that are typically celebrated in the month of April. You have until Tuesday April 21 at 8 p.m. to build your creation. When complete, send a photo of it to us via Facebook message or email it to us at morrisville@midyork.org; participants’ creations will be voted on later by our social media viewers. The winner of the contest will receive a Kindle Fire donated by an anonymous donor who wants someone to smile in this time of uncertainty. Happy building.

Check out our #MorrisvilleStaysHome program! There is no questioning the importance of staying home during this pandemic. Staying home and social distancing saves the lives of our friends, families, and neighbors. Print out this document (morrisvillepubliclibrary.org/…/2020/04/IStayHome.pdf ) and write on it who you are staying home for and then take a picture of you posing with it. Post your picture on Facebook with the hashtags #IStayHome and #MorrisvilleStaysHome and be featured on our Facebook page.

Want to be a part of history? We are in a unique historical moment that will be of interest to future generations. The COVID-19 pandemic is an historical event, unlike anything that we have seen in our lifetime. We have started a blog to document how COVID-19 has affected the library, Morrisville and us personally. We would love to have your input about how your life has been impacted by COVID-19. We would love to hear from kids and adults of all ages. Email your submissions to Jennifer Forward at jforward@midyork.org to have them posted! You can view what we have on the blog at moplcovidblog.blogspot.com/.

I miss all of our library patrons, young and old and can’t wait for the day we can open the doors and say hello again. Please stay safe, wash your hands, sanitize as you need to, continue to practice social distancing and check in on others, especially the elderly and vulnerable individuals.
