Police investigate shooting

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on April 6, 2020, Utica police were dispatched to the intersection of Bleecker Street and Nichols Street regarding a shots-fired report. Upon arrival, police located evidence and witnesses confirming that a shots-fired incident had taken place; however no victims were located at this scene.

While conducting the investigation, Oneida County Dispatch received a call that a victim was en-route to his residence on Howard Avenue. Police units met the male there and learned that he been struck at least once in the pelvic area. He was immediately transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and is expected to survive.

While interviewing this party, another call was received that a second victim had been transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by a private vehicle. This male had also been struck in the pelvic area and required emergency surgery. His injuries were not life-threatening at this time.

Both parties confirmed that the incident occurred on Bleecker Street.

Domestic incident on City St Utica

UPDATE: On April 17, 2020, the Utica Police Department Warrants Division arrested Kendall T. Jackson 40, of Utica, without incident. Jackson was wanted for an outstanding warrant along with charges stemming from a domestic incident that occurred April 13, 2020, on the 1500 block of City St. He was charged on an Oneida County Court warrant (aggravated family offense), first-degree criminal contempt (felony) and harassment (violation).

ORIGINAL: On April 13, 2020 Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 1500 block of City Street for a physical domestic incident. Upon arrival, they were met by the victim who stated that a male had physically assaulted her and threatened to kill her. The victim further added that she believed the male to still be within the residence, and it was questionable as to whether he was armed with a weapon.

As the suspect did not reside at the residence, and due to the fact that felony-level crimes had been committed, the Utica Police Department surrounded the residence and the METRO SWAT was requested due to the nature of incident.

After their arrival, entry was ultimately made; however, the suspect was not found inside.

We would like to thank all the agencies associated with the METRO SWAT for their assistance, as well as the residents of the area in question for their cooperation during the investigation.

Man faces weapons charge

On April 16, 2020, after a lengthy investigation into a shots-fired incident occurring Feb. 16, 2020, on Symonds Place, an individual was been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.

Herman Nash, 18, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies; and criminal possession of a firearm.

Additionally, in a separate and unrelated incident occurring April 12, 2020, several felony charges were levied against Nash regarding him possessing an illegal handgun.

On that date, following a report of an argument involving a party armed with a firearm, officers arrived at a residence on Springate Street and began to assess the situation.
