Bridgeport-Lakeport Community Organization Update

By Terry N. Manning

(Bridgeport) The BLCO has no formal meeting planned for November, but there are lots of community activities coming up. Stay tuned to the Gazette for your community updates and opportunities to get involved.

In addition to the Gazette, we have had in place for quite some time now an on-line community calendar for viewing by the general community. Here’s the link to the calendar: keepandshare.com/calendar/show_month.php?i=566232.

The calendar is being maintained by our organization at this time, so please send your events of general community interest to BLCO-CNY @twcny.rr.com.

As another option for keeping in touch, if you would like to be added to the BLCO e-mail list so you don’t miss anything, drop us a note at BLCO-CNY@twcny.rr.com, and we’ll be pleased to add your name to the list. Don’t worry, we don’t give your info to anyone or abuse the list! If you would like, we will send you an electronic PDF version of the Gazette and you can save a tree!

Remember, it’s your community, stay involved and make a difference!

Christmas Wreath Sale-2010 (No price increase!)

We would like to thank you for an incredible year last year! Well over 100 wreaths were sold and we’re hoping to beat that success this year. Blanding’s Hardware will again this year sponsor a Christmas wreath sale with all proceeds benefiting the BLCO and the Bridgeport Food Pantry.

We have all seen the beautiful wreaths that adorn the front of Blanding Hardware during the holiday season. You can have a piece of that holiday spirit for yourself and support a couple great causes at the same time. The cost is $20 per wreath, and a limited quantity will be available. We strongly suggest reservations to insure you get yours. Not kidding here folks – last year we sold out! They will be at Blanding’s Hardware by Saturday, Nov. 20, prior to Thanksgiving, so you can have yours for the Thanksgiving holiday if you desire.

As a special thank-you for their support, the BLCO will sponsor free coffee and donuts for Blanding visitors on Saturday morning, Nov. 27.

Christmas Party Planned

On Saturday, Dec. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lion’s Club of Bridgeport and Lakeport, in conjunction with the BLCO and the Bridgeport Fire Department  will sponsor its annual Christmas Party, complete with gifts and Santa.

As has become the tradition, there will be a workshop area, sponsored by the United Methodist Church, where the children can work on projects for their parents or siblings.

Christmas Auction Dates Set

The Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is pleased and proud to announce the traditional and renowned Christmas auctions will return again this year and is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 5.

The action starts at 1 p.m. and continues until about 6 p.m. or so. There will be food available for purchase, along with raffles throughout the day.

Please make it a point to get out, get some early shopping done and support those who serve and protect you everyday!

December Blood Drive

The American Red Cross is planning a blood drive at St. Francis of Assisi on Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The need for donations is great. Please make an appointment by calling 1-800- redcross or just stop in. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Look for our February bloodmobile, as we will be having Friday afternoon/evening hours, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Dedications Planned

On Sunday, Nov. 21, several dedications will take place at Oneida Lake Congregational Church, Route 31, east of Lakeport: new flags which have been donated by Rita and Robert Schlegel of Lakeport; a large framed printing of the 52 pastors of Oneida Lake Congregational Church who have served during its 196-year existence prepared by Rita Schlegel and her daughter Sarah I. Lekki (of Baldwinsville) and the recent publication of “The History of Oneida Lake Congregational Church 1814-2006,” which has been written by Bernice N. Stokes over the last six years.

The dedications will take place during the regular morning worship service, at 9:30 a.m. Signed copies of the 267-page history of the church will be available to the public at a price of $20.

Special music will be offered by Bambi Niles, harpist. of Oneida.
